• Mr. Juan Henderson is a native of Troy, Alabama and started his educational career in the Troy City School system.  His career began in Troy City Schools in the Winter Quarter of 1994 as a teacher's aide for six months.  In the Summer of 1994, he started his first teaching job where he taught three years as a 4th grade teacher and began his Administrative career in the Fall of 1997.  His first administrative job was an Assistant Principal at Troy Elementary, where he served in that role for 10 years and another 4 years as the Principal of Troy Elementary.

    Mr. Henderson relocated and was hired by the Clark County School District (CCSD) as an administrator for 5 years. He gained experience working  at Charles I. West- Edison Middle School.  A year later he became the Founding Principal of Imagine School’s 100 Academy of Excellence in North Las Vegas, Nevada.  

    Mr. Henderson and his family returned to Alabama for three years, where he was hired as Principal of Troy Elementary again.  Moving this time after completing three years as Principal.  During that time, he started the first Pre-K 4-year-old program and ensured that each classroom on the campus had current class sets of computers and SmartBoards.

    Once he moved to Illinois,  he was hired as a Kindergarten Teacher for six months to cover maternity leave.  This allowed Henderson to get hired into the system.  The following year, he became the Assistant Principal from 2014 until 2016 at Creekside Elementary School in Elgin, Illinois. In the Fall of 2016, he became the Principal of Lowrie Elementary, a K-5 Dual Language school where he spent nearly three years.  This experience, along with other work centered around equality, diversity and inclusion, inspired Mr. Henderson to spend numerous hours of research and training in this area.  He spent three years on a committee of educators that created the Diversity Plan used by the Elgin School District to align its work to the District Strategic Plan.   

    Mr. Henderson has served the last three years as Principal of Nixon Elementary.  He will now start his 4th year in MPS as the Principal of Carver Elementary Arts and Magnet Schools.  He is extremely excited to have the opportunity to continue to serve and build relationships with “ all the stakeholders” in the community.  

    He brings more than two decades of educational leadership experience to his new post and understands that in order for students to achieve, there must be collaboration between school and home.    

    Mr. Henderson has three daughters.  He is married to Dr. Dana Willis-Henderson and they have Chandler Henderson, a Senior at Park Crossing, and Darian Henderson, a Freshman at Brew Tech. 

    Mr. Henderson earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in elementary education from Troy University in Alabama. He earned an Education Specialist degree in elementary education and Certification in K-12 Administration & Supervision from Auburn University at Montgomery.
