Behavior Analysis Services
Behavior analysis services are provided by a district-wide Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The behavior analyst provides comprehensive behavioral assessment and consultation services for students with significant behavioral challenges. In order to determine the factors that contribute to the behaviors of concern, behavior analyst will:
- Observe the student;
- Assess the environment in which the behaviors occur;
- Conduct interviews with school staff members, parents, and/ or the student.
The BCBA may also provide:
- Classroom management coaching;
- Recommendations for behavioral strategies to be implemented;
- Assistance with the development of a functional behavior assessment and/or behavior intervention plan (FBA/BIP);
- Assistance with the development of a crisis intervention plan to address behaviors of concern
In some cases, skill development plans may be implemented to address skill deficits that contribute to problem behaviors. Data are collected throughout the consultation process, and programmatic changes are made as necessary to ensure continued progress and success within the learning environment.

BULLYING PREVENTION
MPS defines bullying as, "any repeated and pervasive verbal, written, or electronic expression, physical act or gesture, or pattern thereof, that is intended to cause distress upon one or more student in the school, on school grounds, in school vehicles, at designated school bus stops, or at school activities or sanctioned events, whether on or off school property. Bullying includes, but is not limited to, hazing, harassment, intimidation or menacing acts directed a student, which may, but need not be, based on the student's race, color sex, ethnicity, national origin, religion, mental, physical or sensory disability, socioeconomic background, age or sexual orientation. "
If it is suspected that a student is a victim of bullying, the school Principal, or Principal's designee, should be notified of the allegation. The MPS Bullying/Harassment Complaint Form can be found in the MPS Code of Student Behavior Handbook.
