Mrs. Laura Childs - ARI Reading Specialist

Hey there! My name is Laura Lambert Childs.

I'm proactive, collaborative, and believe in leading by example. I spent 5 years in the classroom and I recently accepted a reading specialist position at Garrett Elementary, where I'll continue supporting students and teachers.

As the ARI Literacy Specialist at Garrett Elementary, my job is to help struggling readers improve their reading skills. I work closely with K-3rd grade teachers to provide professional development and resources for effective reading instruction, offer one-on-one or small group instruction on specific reading skills like phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, and collaborate with families to create a supportive reading environment at home. My goal is to ensure that all students can read at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade as part of the Alabama Literacy Act.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's reading development, feel free to reach out to me. Thank you!

Hey Y'all!

My name is Mrs. Allison Lynn and I have a 27-year career in education.

I have taught various grade levels, including first grade, second grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. In addition to classroom experience, I have served as an adjunct professor at Auburn University at Montgomery, where I was able to share my knowledge and expertise with aspiring teachers.

Throughout my career, I have taken on various leadership roles. I have served as the grade level chairperson for an impressive 19 years, demonstrating my exceptional organizational skills and ability to lead collaborative efforts among my colleagues. Additionally, I facilitated AdvancEd development, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to high educational standards.

My commitment to student diversity and inclusion is evident in my role as the ELL (English Language Learners) test administrator for a decade. I was selected as a member of the Alabama Best Practices team, where I conducted instructional rounds throughout the state, sharing best practices and contributing to the professional development of fellow educators.

As I embark on the 2023-2024 school year, I will take on the role of OMI Building Based Mathematics Coach at Garrett Elementary School. This new opportunity will allow me to share my passion for mathematics education, collaborate with teachers, and develop strategies to enhance students' mathematical proficiency.
