• Dear Floyd Middle Magnet Families,

    Hello and welcome to Floyd Middle Magnet School (FMMS) for the 2022-2023 academic year!  A special “Welcome” to our new families. Floyd Middle Magnet is the home of the PANTHERS!   I sure hope each of you are enjoying the last bit of summer 2022 and ready to begin a dynamic year!  I am super excited that we will begin the 2022-2023 academic year fully staffed! The FMMS staff and I look forward to working with you as PARTNERS IN EDUCATION to support your child/children’s academic success here in Panther Nation.  “Collective Efficacy” is everything!

    I think all can agree that last year’s teaching and learning experiences were quite challenging; we navigated teaching and learning, careers, childcare, and staying healthy amidst the pandemic.These experiences afforded us opportunities to master “new” learning management systems, engage in virtual and blended instructional practices, and most importantly, establish partnerships and relationships that fostered a culture of collaboration. You are to be commended for your level of commitment in making the most out of a pandemic school year while excelling academically and athletically at Floyd Middle Magnet. I am confident we are prepared for whatever lies ahead.  I entrust you are as excited as I am to return to five full days of in-person teaching and learning in the building.  I am aware this pandemic is far from over.  

    ​FMMS students will not utilize lockers this school year.  Hand washing and use of sanitizer will be encouraged throughout the instructional day.  I strongly encourage you to join the PTSA and follow their home and parent pages on Facebook for valuable information to include other possible reopening expectations, new student orientation, and to keep up with the latest FMMS updates.  Also, all families should take time to review the Floyd Middle Magnet 2022-2023 Handbook.  Please return the handbook receipt to your child’s homeroom teacher the week of August 16th-20th. This electronic document can be found on the FMMS’s webpage.  As we walk in this “Collective Efficacy” better known as education together, we want our students at FMMS to continue to excel academically, thus, every student will be issued a Chromebook.  Chromebooks and textbooks will be distributed the 1st week of school.

    The first day for students is Monday, August 9, 2022.  The tardy bell rings at 8:20 A.M. daily. Please be sure to check the A.M. and P.M. bus schedules that are forthcoming.  I am thrilled to announce some “innovative” initiatives here at Panther Nation.  We will be utilizing Ed Farm programs, applying Project Wisdom, hosting afterschool Chess, and implementing HIRE (Hyundai Initiative for Robotics Excellence) this year! The Robotics VEX IQ Challenge Full Field Perimeter and Tiles have arrived and are located in Room MU4.  Information regarding these activities are forthcoming.  Some of you have already expressed your interest in these new initiatives at FMMS, and I share in the excitement as we transform Floyd Middle Magnet into the best STEM school in our district!  In addition to our new initiatives, our community center will undergo additional upgrades in the upcoming weeks as the floors will be repainted black and gold with the Panther logo to reflect Panther Nation. How exciting this will be for our indoor sports and physical education classes!

    I am thankful to be able to work collaboratively with such a remarkable group of students, parents, faculty, staff, and community. I thank you in advance for your partnership and look forward to meeting you at our scheduled orientations. Welcome to Panther Nation 2022-2023!
